Aaron began his career in the metal building industry in April of 2000. He has worked for 2 different fabricators over the years since holding positions from District Sales Manager, to most recently VP Industrial Division.
In 2015, while working in the Industrial sector, Aaron recognized the need for a low-cost blast-resistant building solution. He began working to develop a blast-resistant metal building alternative, which provides the clients with a more economical and aesthetically versatile solution.
Since 2015, Aaron has consulted on 100+ blast-resistant projects and has provided metal building solutions for more than 30 different projects. Aaron helped organize and co-hosted, an annual seminar that brought together industry professionals who wanted to learn more about blast dynamics in relation to metal buildings. He is well-versed in the nuances of the Refining Industry and is an expert on metal buildings & blast-resistant construction.
Aaron is a native of Iowa, where he studied Finance at Buena Vista University. He and his family relocated to Texas in 2007. When not working, Aaron enjoys golfing, fishing, live music, and spending time with his wife and 3 children.

OUR EXPERTS

Sr. Director, Engineering
Greg Knight
Greg Knight has over 2 decades of experience performing hazard assessments using consequence and risk-based methodologies. He has performed well over 200 facility siting studies in support of the OSHA PSM requirements. He has deep experience performing consequence modeling for explosion, fire, and toxic hazards using tools such as FLACS, PHAST, and FACET3D. He routinely uses advanced numerical modeling (CFD) to assess explosion (external and internal) and fire consequences. He also has performed multiple quantitative risk assessments (QRA) of onshore refinery and chemical facilities. Mr. Knight is the lead developer of FACET3D, a tool for consequence and risk-based assessments.

Director, Engineering
Kevin Sweeney, P.E.
Kevin Sweeney has experience performing hazard assessments using consequence and risk-based methodologies. Starting in 2007, he has performed facility siting studies for clients using a range of tools and methodologies including PHAST and FLACS. Kevin is an expert at not only analyzing client's potential hazards but also providing actionable solutions for mitigating the risk.

Director, Engineering
Matt Gomez, P.E.
Matthew Gomez is an accomplished and results-driven, licensed Professional Engineer with over sixteen years of experience in structural engineering. He specializes in designing buildings that can withstand both conventional and extreme loads, using advanced nonlinear structural analysis to ensure resilience against extreme events such as vapor cloud explosions, bursting pressure vessels and high explosives.
Matt is a recognized expert in blast-resistant metal building design and has successfully designed dozens of such structures for clients. He is the lead developer of Blast Resource Group’s proprietary blast design software, BlastFrame, and has played a key role in advancing solutions within the blast-resistant metal building industry. He is also the author of two books on the subject. His expertise extends to evaluating, designing, and retrofitting existing buildings for onshore oil and gas facilities, ensuring structural reliability in high-risk environments. Well known for crafting innovative solutions, Matt delivers customized, cost-efficient designs that provide protection without compromising function or aesthetics.
Matt grew up in Texas and received his Bachelor of Science at the University of Texas in San Antonio. He earned his Master of Science in Structural Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and maintains a passion for learning and problem-solving. Outside of work, he enjoys gardening, hiking, getting lost in a good book, and spending quality time with friends and family.

Director, Engineering
Michael Weinberg
Michael Weinberg is a results and client-solutions-driven Chemical/Explosives engineer with over 18 years of experience performing qualitative and quantitative hazard analysis—including flammable/toxic dispersion, jet/pool fires, explosions, and blast load calculations—for client compliance with PSM (e.g., facility siting) and RMP regulations. He is skilled in evaluating various explosion types including vapor cloud explosions (VCEs), high explosives, pressure vessel bursts (PVB), boiling liquid expanding vapor explosions (BLEVEs), and chemical runaway reactions. Over his career he has led and managed teams of engineers in executing facility siting and hazard assessment projects, assisting clients in identifying credible release scenarios (explosion, fire, toxic), mitigating hazard potential, and recommending actions to minimize consequences. He has contributed to over 400 petrochemical, chemical, and pharmaceutical siting studies and hazard assessments across onshore, offshore, domestic, and international facilities.
Michael received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at the University of Idaho (Moscow, ID). He earned his Master of Science in Explosives Engineering from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (Socorro, NM). Michael enjoys tackling new and unique problems as well as improving the efficacy and efficiency of existing solutions.
